As a part of Imperva’s hacker intelligence initiative, we monitor hacker forums to understand many of the technical aspects of hacking. Forums are the cornerstone of hacking—they are used by hackers for technical training, communications, collaboration, recruitment, commerce and even social interaction. Forums contain technical tutorials to help curious newbies, chat rooms whose subject matter range from advice on technical issues, attack planning, attack anatomies, the buying and selling of stolen data and attack software as well as discussion on religion, philosophy and relationships. Imperva’s analyzed one forum with about 250,000 members.
One of our findings: The two most discussed topics in forums are SQL injection, 19% of all discussions, and DDoS with 22% of discussions.
Today, Imperva announced a new cloud-based DDoS service to combat this threat. For more, check out the overview here.
